Assisted living provides seniors a means of semi-independent living while getting helped with certain everyday tasks that may no longer be routine. Residents are typically over the age of 70, but may include younger residents that are in poorer condition and need assistance with activities of daily living (ADL). Assisted living communities still provide the social interaction that many elders enjoy along with the senior care.
The main senior assisted living providers include Brookdale, Assisted Living Concepts, Five Star Assisted Living, Atria Senior Living, Sunrise Senior Living and Emertius Senior Living. Most of the providers' monthly rent are very close to each other. Assisted living can be as low as $2,000 to well over $4,000 a month. The national average is about $3,100 for a one bedroom apartment. A number of factors factor into the cost such as size of room, location of the community and number of meals.
